Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief whip and Shimla legislator Suresh Bhardwaj on Tuesday filed a petition before Vidhan Sabha Speaker BBL Butail, seeking cancellation of membership of four independent legislators.
In the petition, the BJP leader accused the four independent MLAs Karnesh Jung (Poanta Sahib), Pawan Kajal ( Kangra) , Balbir Chauhan ( Chopal) and Manohar Dhiman ( Indora ) of violating Article-10 of the Constitution of India. The four legislators had been siding with Congress both within and outside the house.
To substantiate his claim that all the four MLAs had been the associate members of the Congress, BJP leader also attached the copies of press releases issued by them during the recent monsoon session. All the four MLAs had expressed solidarity with and rallied behind Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh when the opposition had launched an offensive against him.
The BJP leader also attached the copies of newspaper clippings wherein the Independent legislators had sided Virbhadra Singh. In the petition, the BJP alleged that the people of their respective constituencies had elected these Independent legislators and rejected the other candidates but independent legislators have 'merged' with the Congress.
“Inside and outside the Vidhan Sabha, the activities of Independent legislators are like Congress members and they had also campaigned for the Congress candidates during the Lok Sabha elections. Even chief minister Virbhadra Singh considers them as party members,” he alleged.
The petitioner also urged Vidhan Sabha speaker to consider the petition and cancel the membership of all four independent legislators.
Suresh Bhardwaj was joined by state party chief Satpal Singh Satti, legislator from Una; party general secretary Randhir Sharma and legislator from NainaDevi. Four advocates namely, Rajkishore Sharma , Virbhadra Sharma, Vidushi Sharma and Bhupinder Thakur were also when the petition was submitted to the speaker.
