Demanding speedy restoration of power, water supply and road connectivity in the district, BJP workers staged a protest against the state government in Manali on Friday. Angered over the slow progress of the electricity department on restoring power supply in the tourist town and other areas, the protesters raised slogans against the government.

"Under the Congress party regime Kullu district has continually been facing discrimination by the state government, which has failed to speed up development projects in the area. The district's residents have been inconvenienced by power outages that have also hit the tourism industry, which provides livelihood to hundreds of families in the area," said Local MLA Govind Thakur, who participated in the protest.

According to locals, in Manali voltage fluctuation of electric supply has become a big problem for them, which has dire need to execute their daily works but electricity department still failed to solve the problem.

The BJP workers threatened to intensify the agitation against the state government within a few days if it failed to pay heed to their demands. They also submitted a memorandum on their demands addressed to the Himachal Pradesh governor to subdivisional magistrate Manali Vinay Dheeman.
