Agreeing with an "empathic" response from the chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on raising the farmers' issues with the prime minister, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) today ended its day-old dharna at Pipli in Kurukshetra.

On Thursday, hundreds of farmers had blocked roads to Delhi and Saharanpur for five hours against centre's anti-farmers stance.

A BKU delegation met Hooda at Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh and announced to end protest at the dharna site near Parakeet resort in the afternoon. BKU, Haryana president Gurnam Singh told HT over phone that Hooda had ensured to fix their meeting with the prime minister.

He said that the BKU leadership is satisfied the way Hooda ensured to take up their issues. "The PMO has announced to fix a meeting soon and the BKU national general secretary Yudhvir Singh will pursue the case. We hope that center would agree to initiate steps to help the worsening condition of the farming community," said Gurnam.
