A day after a three-year-old boy went missing, he was rescued from the custody of his neighbour and his two cousins in Mullanpur’s Ferozepur village in SAS Nagar on Thursday.

Police said the accused, Arjun, 21, and his cousins, all residents of Mullanpur, had abducted the child to blackmail his family, as one of the accused allegedly had illicit relations with the victim’s mother.

After the victim went missing on Wednesday, his father approached the police, who registered a case under sections 363 (kidnapping) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

During investigation, they found that the complainant’s neighbour Arjun was missing. On enquiring about his location, police managed to trace his location to Ferozepur village. On raiding a house in the village, the police found the trio in possession of the child.
