Reacting to Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa’s seeking clarification from him, former Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Jagmeet Brar on Sunday said only the man in charge of party affairs in Punjab could issue him a notice about statements to the media.

Reacting to Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa’s seeking clarification from him, former Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Jagmeet Brar on Sunday said only the man in charge of party affairs in Punjab could issue him a notice about statements to the media.

“By writing on behalf of Shakeel Ahmed (party’s Punjab affairs in-charge), you have committed a technical error,” Brar told Bajwa. On Saturday, the state party president had asked Brar to explain his conduct by August 5 for his “irresponsible and highly undesirable utterances” last week that party national president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi should time off for two years after the debacle in the Lok Sabha elections.

“The organisation is supreme and I remain a member of the All-India Congrerss Committee (AICC). I have been a member of the CWC for several years, and the issues I have raised are of national importance and for the future of the party. Please, restraint your office-bearers and legislators from going to the press without studying my statements in the context of the larger interest of the party,” Brar wrote back to Bajwa.

He had, earlier, said that even appointing Manmohan Singh as prime minister for the second term had been a mistake.
