The juvenile justice board granted bail to one class 12 student of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 35 who was booked by the police on charges of assaulting a class 10 student of the same school. However, he was later released after furnishing bail bonds of Rs 13,000.

In his complaint to the police filed on July 17 Sachin said he had a verbal spat with the two students after which the latter along with some of their friends beat him up with batons and other objects outside the school. The police recorded his statement on July 18 but registered a case only on Monday.

Meanwhile, an inquiry conducted by the school has revealed Sachin had never lodged any complaint on being bullied or harassed to school or education department officials. The report, which was submitted to the district education office on Thursday, also ruled out ragging since the boy, who has been studying at the school since class 1, had never approached the authorities with such a complaint.

The report also revealed Sachin as well as one of the class 12 students booked for the assault were not marked present on the day the incident took place last week. Another class 12 student was also booked by the police. The report, however, failed to ascertain the reasons that led to the brawl since the statements that Sachin and the two class 12 students had given to the cops were contradictory. According to sources, the education department has already expelled both students from the school and a final decision on the issue would hinge on the outcome of the ongoing police investigations.
