The Punjab government on Wednesday slashed the public transport ordinary bus fare by 4 paise per kilometer (from 91 paise to 87 paise) with effect from January 1, 2015, a spokesman here said.

The decision has come after the state government had hiked the fare by 8 paise in June this year.

The bus fare for semi-deluxe AC buses, and integral and super integral AC coaches has also been slashed by 5 paise, 7 paise and 8 paise respectively.

“This is first time in the history of the state that the bus fares have been reduced,” transport minister Ajit Singh Kohar said in a statement here.
