Some of the devotees returning by bus from Vaishno Devi on their way to Delhi claimed they were robbed of their belongings after being drugged. Talking to reporters, DSP (South) Surjit Malik media said: “Four of the about 40 passengers travelling in the Volvo sleeper bus complained they had robbed of their cash, ATM cards, valuables and even clothes on the way.”

The bus arrived at the Sector 43 bus station early on Wednesday morning. The police have registered a daily diary report following the complaint and have also notified their counterparts in Pathankot and Katra.

The bus began its trip in Katra at night and stopped on the way in Pathankot for refreshments. Some of the passengers said they were told to alight and have dinner. One of them, Shiela, said the passengers noticed a strange smell in the bus when they boarded it. “When the bus stopped in Pathankot about five of us were feeling dizzy”, she added.

Another woman, Gauri, said some of the passengers noticed their bags had been opened with cash and other belongings missing. When they were told some other bags had also been tampered they asked the driver to take the bus to a police station. However, he told them as Chandigarh was only 15 km away the bus would proceed to its destination.
