Husband of former councillor and their supporters not only damaged the cameras of mediapersons but also hurled abuses and threatened them.

Abhi Mehta, husband of Ranjeeta Mehta, who is contesting from ward number 10 as Independent; and Manish Gupta, husband of former councillor and Independent candidate from the same ward Bhawna Gupta, entered into arguments over allowing a few women to vote after 5 pm at BKM Vishwas Public School, Sector 9.

Following this, supporters of both candidates entered into a scuffle. One of the women supporters threw a water bottle on the photojournalist of a vernacular, which led to a scuffle between mediapersons and supporters of Bhawna Gupta.

At this moment, the police intervened and took two persons to the police station.
Meanwhile, journalist KC Malkania, who runs an evening newspaper, was hit by the car of the father-in-law of Bhawna Gupta. Other journalists rushed towards the spot, but he managed to flee.

In the whole scuffle, three cameras were damaged.

The photojournalist, whose camera was broken by Manish Gupta and was also threatened by him, lodged a formal complaint with the police. The police were yet to register a first information report (FIR) till the filing of the report.

“We are looking into the incident,” said commissioner of police, Ambala-Panchkula, Rajbir Deswal.
