Candidates’ love for firearms to fore

Many candidates who are contesting the ensuing assembly elections love their firearms, if information submitted in their affidavits during the filing of nominations is any indication. While a few are satisfied with one firearm, some have three firearms. According to the Fire Arms Act, a person can retain up to three firearms on one license.

Congress nominee from Pehowa and a first- timer, Mandeep Singh Chattha, who is son of state finance minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha, has shown his movable assets as Rs 51.58 lakh while his wife Ramandeep Kaur has movable assets worth Rs 99.31 lakh. Mandeep Chattha also possesses one .32-bore revolver worth Rs 1 lakh.

Harmohinder Singh Chattha, who filled his nomination as covering candidate of the Congress has shown his movable assets as Rs 1.88 crore, while his wife Nirmaldeep Kaur’s has movable assets of Rs 66.30 lakh.

INLD candidate from Pehowa and former Haryana minister Jasvinder Singh Sandhu, a matriculate, has shown his movable assets as Rs 16.7 lakh, while his wife Amarjeet Kaur has movable assets worth Rs 7.95 lakh.

Sandhu also possesses one pistol worth Rs 50,000, one rifle worth Rs 45,000 and a .12-bore gun worth Rs 50,000.

BJP candidate from Pehowa, Jai Bhagwan Sharma aka DD has shown his movable assets at Rs 73.6 lakh, while his wife Krishna Devi has movable assets worth Rs 7.67 lakh. Sharma has three firearms, including one .315- bore rifle, one .32- bore revolver and one double-barrel gun with a total value of Rs 1.95 lakh.
