Panjab University (PU) vice-chancellor (V-C) Arun Kumar Grover announced that PU elections' candidates will be allowed to use it's community radio station and official website for the student council elections, here on Tuesday.
The V-C announced this while addressing students on the occasion of former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh's address at Panjab University auditorium on the campus.
The administration did not favour open house debates, as it results in interference by outsiders, but had earlier proposed to allow use of radio debates by students for student council elections.
Grover said technology could be used to disseminate information and to make the student council elections less costly.
He added, “PU community radio station Jyotirgamaya 91.2 can be used to make the elections less expensive. PU will allocate some time and the recorded messages of the student council candidates will be telecast on air.”
The V-C also offered to allot space on the PU website, so that the candidates can upload their power point presentations on it. This would help in limiting the poll expenses. Departmental election candidates will be allocated space on the web page of their own departments, Grover added.
