Family members, friends and locals remembered Kargil martyr Capt Vikram Batra on his 40th birth anniversary in Palampur town on Tuesday.
Capt Batra laid his life in service of nation during 1999 Kargil war. He was posthumously awarded Param Veer Chakra, India's highest gallantry award, for his bravery.
A programme was organised in his memory at Capt Batra Government College, Palampur. Vidhan Sabha speaker BBL Butail presided over the function and inaugurated a wi-fi facility and ultra- modern computer lab in the college campus.
He said the state government was spending Rs 4,282 crore in the education sector. Debate, declamation, Rangoli and painting competitions were organised to commemorate the occasion, wherein participants from nine colleges participated.
Capt Batra's parents, GL Batra and Kamal Kanta Batra, Dr NK Kalia, father of Kargil martyr Captain Saurabh Kalia, and other dignitaries of the town were also present on the occasion.
