The Punjab chief minister is to blame for the intimidation of nearly 150 Congress workers at Manna village in his assembly constituency of Lambi, former CM Captain Amarinder Singh has said.
On Saturday, condemning the Manna incident, Amarinder said here that intimidation had caused the entire village to be deserted, the Congress workers feared arrest and had escaped for safety. "The myth that Parkash Singh Badal is not vindictive is busted," he said.
It was impossible to believe that whatever was on at Manna was not being done at the behest of the CM, said Amarinder. "I am not prepared to accept that people can oppose him in his own constituency, which he considers to be his sole fiefdom," the Congress leader added.
The former CM said the Congress workers had been simply protesting against booth capturing by the Akali workers when the latter had attacked them and set their vehicles on fire. "The villagers were forced to retaliate when the Akalis fired gunshots as well," said Amarinder. "It is not just dictatorial but draconian that the victims who needed to be heard are hounded out by the police," he added.
