Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh, on Friday, condemned the statement of Akali legislator Virsa Singh Valtoha in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, for trying to glorify terrorism and claiming to be a terrorist.
“You better be proud of something better, if you really have anything to feel proud of, lest you be shown the place you deserve,” Capt told the Akali MLA in a statement here.
Amarinder said, “Valtoha should have been expelled from the House or reprimanded at least, as such provocative statements can vitiate peace in the state and create fear among people.”
The former Punjab chief minister also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its “double standards”.
“While the Akalis are known to patronise drug trade and trafficking with quite a few of their leaders being more of peddlers than public representatives, the BJP has also exposed itself by siding with the party, despite taking a moral ground in public,” Amarinder said.
He added that the BJP was desperately trying to wriggle out of the situation though, at the same time, it did not want to give up power and the alliance with the Akalis.
