Taking a car dealer to task for delay in hand-over of sale documents to a customer, the district consumer disputes redressal forum on Saturday ordered the seller to pay compensation of Rs 1 lakh.
Out of the total amount, Rs 70,000 are in view of the financial loss suffered by the customer while the rest is suffering harassment.
Disposing of a complaint filed by Amrit Pal Singh, a resident of Pinjore in Panchkula district, the consumer forum also directed the dealer - macro ventures private limited, Phase 6, industrial area, SAS Nagar - to refund an amount of `26,444 alongwith the interest and another Rs 2,125 to the complainant.
Singh had purchased a Tata Indica from the dealer in January last. However, he complained that he was not provided with sale documents despite repeated visits to the office.
He said his vehicle could not be registered due to non-availability of the required documents and suffered a loss as he could not fulfill an agreement he had with a company to ferry its employees.
The consumer forum, headed by Madhu P Singh observed that "necessary documents and their timely delivery...for timely and proper registration of the car is an essential component of the service/sale of the delivery of new car".
Macro ventures had sought dismissal of the complaint saying the vehicle was bought for commercial purposes and therefore the complainant did not come in the definition of "consumer".
