The response came on the public interest litigation of HC Arora, an advocate seeking issuance of directions to Punjab to release cash awards to all sportspersons, who brought medals in competitions held at different levels as per the sports policy.

Following the submissions from the state, the petition has been disposed of, having been rendered infructuous.

The court was told that the government had given cash awards only to 295 medal winners amounting to `8.85 crore, whereas more than 700 such medalists were waiting monetary awards.
