The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Thursday directed the education secretary, UT administration, VK Singh, to appear before the tribunal, in connection to the application of the terminated Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs). These teachers were earlier working as the guest faculty with the education department.

During the resumed hearing of the application of the terminated PGTs on May 9, CAT adjourned the application to May 29, with directions to the education secretary to appear before the tribunal.

The education secretary was summoned after DPI (schools), Upkar Singh, on Thursday informed the tribunal that the education department was considering the claim of the terminated guest faculty teachers “sympathetically” but as it was a policy decision the matter was pending with the “higher authorities”.

During the earlier hearing, the UT education department had told the CAT that they were working out the modalities regarding the case pertaining to the guest teachers and thus demanded time.

CAT had already directed the UT administration to adjust the teachers and had even directed the department to allow the guest teachers to continue till any further orders.

CAT had also directed that PGT's would be allowed to teach the subjects of trained graduate teachers (TGT). The decision was taken as the UT education department after terminating the services of the PGT's, had appointed TGT teachers in their place and thus there were no vacancies for PGT's.

Nearly 55 guest faculty PGT teachers have moved CAT challenging the order of education department.
