The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed charge sheet against Raka Ghirra, suspended deputy superintendent of Punjab police, on charges of criminal conspiracy and corruption in a graft case that surfaced in 2011.

In a 17-page charge sheet filed before the court of special CBI judge Vimal Kumar, the CBI indicted Ghirra under Section 120-B of the IPC and under Section 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

On April 20, Manmohan Singh, who was the reader and co-accused in the case, expressed his willingness in the CBI court to turn approver and give statement against Ghirra. Manmohan will now be a prosecution witness.

On July 25, 2011, the CBI had arrested the then Mohali DSP on charges of demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 1 lakh from a builder to settle his case.
