CBI raids two MLAs houses in murder case

Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) raided the houses of two Haryana MLAs on Tuesday in connection with the alleged murder of an ex-sarpanch of Kambopura village.

Zile Ram Sharma and Om Prakash Jain, the MLAs from Assandh (Karnal) and Panipat rural constituencies, respectively, are main accused in the crime that had rocked the Haryana politics in 2011.

CBI teams raided the Sector 8 house of Sharma here while Jain’s house in Model Town area of Panipat city was searched throughout the day.

At the time of raid Sharma was not at home while Jain was present at his residence when the CBI team reached at house this morning.

CBI officials seized Rs 26.50 lakh cash from Jain’s house and took certain documents in its custody.

But a source at Sharma’s residence claimed that the MLA had gone to Allahabad along with his family members to take holy dip at Kumbh.

A locksmith was called in by the investigating team in Karnal to open several locks at Sharma’s newly built house.

The team thoroughly searched the house had also seized certain documents whose details were not disclosed.

Sharma’s old house which was sold by the MLA was also visited by the team.

Later, Jain told Hindustan Times that the cash seized was the admission fees of the Panipat-based public school whose chairman is his son.

“CBI officials took cash in its custody and we have given all documents. In the next 2-3 days we will submit papers to take back the cash which is an accounted money of the school,” he said.

The ex-sarpanch Karam Singh was found unconscious near the British-era cemetery here on June 7, 2011.

He died on the same day at civil hospital and deceased’s family has charged Sharma and Jain for murdering Singh.

Deceased’s son Rajinder Singh had alleged that the MLAs had taken a bribe of Rs 12.45 lakh for ensuring government jobs to his three relatives.

When promise of jobs was no fulfilled, Singh demanded his money back, the infuriated MLAs plotted to kill Karam Singh.

Later on, the Punjab and Haryana high court had admitted a plea of Rajinder and handed over the case to the CBI for a fair probe.

On Feb 12, the CBI had searched the spot where Singh was found unconscious.
