Anti-corruption branch of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have arrested a Chandigarh police personnel on charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000.

Accused Mange Ram was posted in the summons cell of Chandigarh Police. He allegedly demanded a bribe under the fake name 'Chaudhary' for not preparing an adverse report in a court case.

A CBI statement said that its anti-corruption branch had received a complaint from a businessman of Sector 22 that 'Chaudhary' had demanded Rs 20,000 for not filing an adverse report against the complainant in a case pending in a Delhi court.

The complainant alleged that on March 7, Ram visited his shop and told him that a Delhi court had issued arrest warrants against him, his brother and his sister-in-law and demanded Rs 20,000 from him.

A trap was laid and Ram was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe. A search was also conducted at the residential premises of the accused.
