A day after the CCTV footage of former Sector 34 station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Shukla being assaulted by the central bureau of investigation officials went viral, the bureau on Monday suspended inspector Ashok Kumar who was seen hitting the cop.

Shukla, who was nabbed accepting Rs 10,000 bribe, along with two other cops, had claimed that he was manhandled and tortured by the CBI sleuths at Burail police post soon after his arrest on September 3.

Shukla through his advocate SPS Bhullar claimed that he would shoot off a complaint to UT IGP RP Upadhyaya, SP (CBI) Tarun Gaba and the human rights commission. “The CBI sleuths soon after arresting me started assaulting me. I also questioned them that why are they hitting me,” Shukla said.

Shukla said he would take up the issue with seniors and would provide evidence with his claim.

Shukla said inspector Ashok Kumar, who was part of the raiding team, had hit him and a constable nabbed along with him.

Shukla is currently out on bail. Shukla had also shot off a communiqué earlier through his advocate that he was framed because of internal politics in the Chandigarh Police.

Meanwhile, the CBI has taken a serious note of his complaint and has asked for the CCTV footage of the Burail police post from the Chandigarh Police.

Gaba said they were conducting an inquiry into the matter. The CCTV footage was being scrutinised. He added that as per the CBI protocol, the sleuths cannot manhandle anyone till the accused turned violent.
