Central university holds student council elections

A total of 68.87% students exercised their franchise during the student council elections at Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) here on Tuesday.The election process started with the issue of notification by the dean, students' welfare, on September 22.

Of the total 30 candidates, who had filed their nomination papers from different schools for 20 seats, three withdrew their nominations and the nomination papers of four students were rejected due to several reasons.A total of 12 candidates from various schools were elected unopposed and polling was held for eight seats.

At School of Business and Management Studies, Harnek Singh, Mandeep Kaur, Sanjeev Kumar, Avtar Singh and Sahil Dhawan were declared winners, respectively, while at School of Humanities and Languages and School of Education, Surender Kumar and Sonu Kumar were elected as department representatives. At School of Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media, Ajay Rohilla was declared winner.

Prof HR Sharma, dean, students' welfare, said the notification of the elected candidates from different schools would be issued on October 1. The entire election process was completed successfully as students not only maintained discipline during the whole process but also attended classes, he said.

Meanwhile,university vice-chancellor Prof YS Verma congratulated all winning candidates and appreciated students for maintaining discipline during elections.
