The union government has called a meeting with the representatives of micro hydro-electric project promoters to resolve various issues pending with union power ministry and environment and forests ministry. The meeting has been called following an initiative by former union minister and Kangra MP Shanta Kumar.

The veteran leader said that about 400 hydro projects of capacity of 5 megawatt or less have been allotted in Himachal Pradesh.

He said that a delegation of the promoters of these hydro power project promoter firms met him in New Delhi urging to resolve the issues which are halting the progress of these projects. "I had requested the both union environment minister Prakash Javadekar and power minister Piyush Goyal to hold a joint meeting and listen to the grievances of these power project promoters," said Shanta.

"I got a call from Goyal today who informed me that the meeting has been called on September 3 at New Delhi," he informed.

Shanta said a 20- member delegation of micro- hydro project promoters will take part in the meeting, besides the two ministers concerned.

"I also called chief minister Virbhadra Singh to depute some officials from the state power ministry to attend the meeting and have got positive response from him," said Shanta.

Besides, Shanta has also written to all the Himachal MPs so that the problems these power projects are facing could be resolved.
