Centre responsible for wheat-paddy cycle: Sharma

chandigarh Updated: Jun 27, 2012 11:56 IST

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) held Centre government responsible for failure of crop diversification scheme in the state and said it had deliberately adopted anti Punjab farmer policies to cause damage to the state.

Participating in the debate in favour of Punjab budget in Vidhan Sabha, joint secretary and chief parliamentary secretary industry and commerce, NK Sharma said rotation of wheat and paddy cycle was responsible for depletion of ground water in the state. The peasantry of the state is not opting out of the cycle because the Centre government never decides the MSP for any other produce.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress for misguiding the people on debt of the state, Sharma said it was a fact that the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government neither tried to return the loan amount nor tried to increase the income of the state.

'But our government under the leadership of Parkash Singh Badal has successfully increased the income of the state manifold. We would be able to return the loans and make Punjab debt free,' he added.

Thanking chief minister for the establishment of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial at ChaparChiri, Sharma said everyone talks about Majha, Malwa and Doaba, but this is the first government who has given honour to Puadh region of the state.
