The century-old Sadhupul bridge on Chail-Kandaghat road, collapsed on Saturday.

The bridge that was constructed in 1904 by the British to facilitate the local populace, including the British officers, to visit Shimla via Chail, caved in at around 9.20 am when a truck, carrying over 20-tonne of load, was crossing over it. The bridge was meant for vehicles with 9-tonne load.

The driver of the apple-laden truck, the cleaner and a local resident of Sadhupul sustained minor injuries. They were discharged after first aid at Kandaghat civil hospital.

PWD principal secretary Narinder Chauhan said that due to the bridge collapse, the traffic came to a standstill and the PWD workers were deployed on the road to find temporary alternate route to facilitate the commuters till a Bailley bridge is constructed there.
