The 0001 number of the CH-01-AZ series went for Rs 8.5 lakh at the public auction of the series at the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) office in Sector 17 on Saturday. It was the highest amount bid for the top number since CH-01-AT 0001 fetched Rs 9.1 lakh in May 2013.
LD Mittal, the owner of International Tractors, having its office in Sector 34, bagged the AZ 0001 number for his firm’s new Mercedes S series car. His employee Rajesh Thakur represented him at the auction.
The second highest winning bid of the day was for CH-01-AZ-0007 at Rs 3.35 Lakh by a resident of Khuda Ali Sher, Kulwinder Singh. He won it after a fierce round of bidding against another resident Sukhlovepreet Singh, and the amount was raised by Rs 1,000 per call. There was considerable mirth among the gathering at this. The third highest winning bid was for CH-01-AZ-0009 that went under the hammer for Rs 3.2 lakh followed by 0002 that was sold for Rs 3.01 Lakh.

For rights to the number 0005, one GS Sandhu was pitted against another GS Sandhu. One of them finally won it for Rs 2.55 lakh for his new Fortuner SUV.
Rs 3 lakh number for Rs 7 lakh Bolero
A Sector-34 based company Him Agro Food Ltd bought the 0003 number for Rs 3 lakh for their Mahindra Bolero.
Among the double digit special numbers, 0011 fetched the maximum at Rs 2.05 lakh by Sarpreet Singh of Sector 33.
Numbers from 0101 go under hammer today
The second day of the auction will open on Sunday 9:30am with the auction of vanity number 0101 onwards.
