There is a bad news for people who have their vehicles registered under CH-01AM series and have yet not got affixed high-security registration number plates (HSRP). Acting on the advice of the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA), the traffic police have started issuing challans to CH-01-AM series vehicles for HSRP violation.
DSP ( traffic) Kamaldeep Singh said challans for ‘AM’ series were started two-three days ago, and so far, 42 vehicles have been challaned for HSRP violations.
If the RLA data is to be believed, only 5,444 vehicles under the ‘AM’ series have got affixed HSRP till April 5. The number is far too less, as each series has a total of 9,999 vehicles.
RLA officials said the department should not be blamed for putting this series under challan. “We had started the registration for AM series on February 1 and gave two-month time to city residents to get affixed HSRPs.”
With this latest addition, the total number of series from which vehicles can be challan for HSRP violation has increased to 10. They include CH-01-AW, AV, AU, AT, AS, AR, AQ, AP, AN and AM. There is no pendency in series from AW to AS as they fall under the new series category and vehicles registered under them were affixed HSRP at the time of purchase only.
But major cause of worry is the pendency in the category of old registered vehicles from AR to AM series (see box). So far, the police have challaned more than 1,500 vehicles from these old series for not getting affixed HSRPs.
Meanwhile, the RLA has started affixing HSRPs for AL series vehicles and has set a one-month deadline for it.
