Chandigarh: 15-year-old delivers baby, driver arrested for rape

The Chandigarh Police arrested a 28-year-old man, who worked as a driver, for allegedly raping a minor. The incident came to light after the minor victim delivered a baby at the Government Multi Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Rupinder Singh, working as a driver at the house of Kanwal Thakar, sister of city MP Kirron Kher. Sector 3 SHO Malkiat Singh said the accused had raped the 15-year-old girl at her Sector-8 house.

The minor victim, hailing from Assam, had come to Chandigarh about a year back and was staying with her aunt, who worked as a domestic help.

The accused had come in contact of the victim as she worked as a domestic help at a house in Sector 8, which was next to that of the employer of the accused. The accused allegedly raped her repeatedly.

Police sources said on Friday, the victim complained of severe stomachache and was rushed to GMSH 16, where she delivered a baby. The doctors informed the police and a case was registered.

The SHO said “The accused has been arrested under Section 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, 2012. The investigations are on.
