A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 10-year jail for raping a 13-year-old girl thrice. The accused used to give Rs 50 to the victim after committing the crime.
The court also imposed a fine for Rs 2.11 lakh on Prabhu Singh, a resident of Sector 16, Chandigarh. He was arrested in September 2014 following a complaint by the victim's mother, who accused him of raping and kidnapping her minor daughter.
Taking into account the identification of the accused by the victim in her statement where she recalled her traumatic experience corroborated by the medical evidence, the court convicted Prabhu disbelieving his pleas of false implication owing to old enmity.
"She has invariably fallen a prey to the reprehensible vile act of the accused. If ever, she has faltered in her deposition it is all on account of her being minor innocent girl and on account of the traumas and travails she has undergone and which has violently rocked her to the very depth of her mind and soul," said the court holding that her statement "inspires confidence and proves the guilt of the accused to the hilt without reasonable doubt."
The victim, a student of Class 6, told the court how the convict allured her on the pretext of giving her pocket money. "Uncle used to give me money (Rs 50) after committing wrong with in his house," the victim said while deposing before the court. She told the court that the convict raped in on three occasions before he was arrested after her mother barged into his house on September 29, 2014.
