Congress Chandigarh candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal filed his nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.
The Congress finally announced Pawan Bansal as its candidate for the Chandigarh parliamentary elections on March 13, ending the six-day suspense and jitters for the four-time Lok Sabha MP struggling to wash the taint of the railway bribery scandal.
Though the party’s central election committee on March 7 cleared Bansal’s name, no list was announced. The Congress had released its first list of 194 candidates on March 8. Bansal was nowhere there too. But, finally the list released on Thursday found Bansal’s name in it.
Bansal, whose tenure as the railway minister was marred by the railway bribery scandal scam in May 2013, will contest the seat for the seventh time. Bansal will contesting against Aam Aadmi Party's Gul Panag and Bharatiya Janta Party's Kirron Kher beside BSP candidate Jannat Jahan.
