A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.

Wearing braces? Get ready to flash that near-perfect smile for the Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) is organising a selfie smile contest and a smile fashion show in Chandigarh on Thursday.

The event is part of the IOS’s ‘smile torch’ initiative to generate awareness about orthodontics, the specialty of dentistry that deals with the alignment of teeth by using braces.

The ‘smile torch’ arrived at Panjab University’s Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital’s department of orthodontics on Monday and will be at dental colleges of the tricity and adjoining areas till July 19.

The PU dental institute also organised a two-km ‘smile walk’ on Monday during which pamphlets on orthodontic care were distributed to generate awareness about braces.

As part of its golden jubilee celebrations, the IOS launched the national ‘smile torch’ campaign last November. The torch would be completing its journey across the country at the 50th IOS conference in Hyderabad in December.
