After much deliberations, the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) started night bus service in the city on Tuesday night. Presently, the CTU services begin at 6am and the buses go off-roads at 9pm.

The night bus service was flagged off from a roundabout near IT Park at 8.45pm. The UT and adviser KK Sharma and home secretary Anil Kumar were present. The service will cover spots like hospitals and malls, where there are a lot of visitors during night hours, and be available till 3 am.

According to the route map (see illustration) prepared by the CTU, the service will start from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) and going through Madhya Marg, after its first stop at government multi specialty hospital, Sector 16, the bus will go to ISBT-17. From there, after a stop at Aroma Hotel, it will cover places like Sector 43 bus stand, Tribune Chowk, railway station, Transport Chowk and then return to ISBT-17.

Five low-floor buses will run both clockwise and anticlockwise on the night route. The bus will reach each stop after 40-45 minutes interval. Currently, CTU operates only one bus at night on the IT Park route.
