Chandigarh man gets one-year jail for theft

Additional district and sessions judge JS Sidhu on Friday awarded one-year jail to 33-year-old Sanjay, a resident of Hallomajra, who is a habitual thief as per the police records. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 200 on him.

The UT police have registered a case on January 14 against Sanjay and booked him for stealing a car parked outside a house in Sector 30. The police have recovered the vehicle from Sector 20 on Sanjay 's disclosure.

Sanjay was booked on the complaint of one Rajkumar, who accused Sanjay of trying to steal his car after smashing its window. Sanjay was nabbed by public on January 21 from near a community centre in Sector 22. The police claimed that he was named as accused in about six other theft cases. Sanjay was convicted on Friday in another theft case and a quantum of sentence would be pronounced on Saturday.
