Chandigarh railway station has been planned to be constructed on the lines of the Berlin Railway Station of Germany. This was stated by UT administrator Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki at Symposium-2015 organised by the Council for Economic and Scientific Studies (CESS) at Gurgaon on Saturday.
The work has been allotted to the same firm that had got the Berlin railway station constructed.
"Chandigarh would be declared 'slum-free city' in the coming three-four years. Everybody in the city would have a house," he said.
Referring to Metro, the administrator said Gurgaon is connected with Metro rail and now Rapid Metro is also running in the city, while the metro project in Chandigarh is still in planning stage. He said he was lucky that during his tenure as city's chief administrator, the project was being revived.
"A Greater Chandigarh Transport Corporation has been made for executing the metro project, in which officers of Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Centre have been included. The initial amount of `100 crore needed for the project was also arranged by the four partners, each giving `25 crore," he added.
Solanki said Gurgaon is ahead of Chandigarh in many terms. He said science and technology are complementary to each other and without technology, there cannot be any development.
