UT DGP PK Srivastava launched the revamped and upgraded website of Chandigarh Traffic Police www.chandigarhtrafficpolice.org at Police Headquarters here on Thursday.
The upgraded website is more interactive and has mock tests on traffic rules for people preparing to take a driving test to obtain a licence. More questions have been added in the data bank and it has been made more user friendly.
Animations on "right of way" in different situations have been highlighted, besides the new design element has also been introduced.
UT SP (traffic) Maneesh Chaudhary said, "We are uploading the videos of different accidents on YouTube to create awareness among residents about road safety. The videos will also highlight traffic violations such as crossing red light, standing on zebra crossing, not wearing seat belts and travelling without helmet leading to accidents."
He added their aim was to provide safe and secure environment to the commuters travelling on the city roads.
Chaudhary added that the traffic police had also come up with accident analysis wing to examine the spot. The wing members go and study the accident spot to see if the cause of the mishap was road-engineering defect or a human error. Road accidents captured by the close circuit cameras installed at various traffic lights and roundabouts across the city had been put uploaded on YouTube.
Harman Singh Sidhu, who has upgraded the website, said, "The traffic police website gets 5 lakh hits on an average every month and after upgrading it, the number is expected to go much higher."
