Chandigarh: Two booked for raping minor

Police have booked two youths for raping a 14-year-old girl in Sector 82 on late Sunday night.The accused have been identified as Rana Singh and Shelly, both residents of Manauli village in SAS Nagar.

Police said the incident happened when the minor along with her parents was attending a farewell party of her close relative at the village on Sunday. However, she was forcibly taken to a secluded place in Sector 82 by the alleged accused, police said.

The victim, a Class-9 student, revealed to her parents that during the function, she was going to washroom when the duo, allegedly drunk, followed her and forcibly kidnapped to a secluded place on their scooter.

She alleged that after raping her, she was thrashed by them. They also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. She said they dropped her at the farewell party and fled.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Kumar, station house officer, Sohana police station, said, "The medical examination has confirmed the rape. The victim's statement was recorded before the magistrate."

The accused, who are at large, were booked under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code, section 164 of the CrPC, and under relevant sections of the POSCO Act.
