The cyber crime cell of the Chandigarh Police on Sunday arrested a man and his woman friend for allegedly stealing objectionable photographs of a girl from her laptop and uploading the same on facebook. They also tried to extort `50,000 from her threatening that her photographs would be sent to her parents and friends.

The police said the accused uploaded the victim’s pictures through a fake facebook ID to mount pressure on her. The accused have been identified as 32-year-old Jagjeet Singh, a resident of Ferozepur and his 28-year-old woman friend. They both were putting up at a rented accommodation in Sector 55, Chandigarh.

The police have also seized a mobile phone from their possession in which they had saved the victim’s photographs. Jagjeet is a car dealer in the Sector 7 car bazaar.

Sources said the complainant told police that the accused were her roommates in Sector 55. The complainant said that following some misunderstanding, she shifted from Sector 55 accommodation some time back.

The police said that the accused knew about the complainant’s photographs in her laptop and they transferred the same to a mobile phone. After this, the accused started blackmailing the girl.

The police have registered a case under Sections 43 and 67 of the IT Act and Sections 384 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 39 police station.
