A youth was murdered in the booth market of Maloya on Saturday evening after being attacked with sharpedged weapons by two men. The victim has been identified as Mukesh Kumar alias Chotta Bassi, 22. Mukesh was rushed to PGIMER where he was declared brought dead.
One of the accused, identified as Akash, who is son of a head constable employed with the Chandigarh police, has been arrested, while his accomplice Vivek is absconding.
The victim, Mukesh, was alone in the market when he was attacked by the accused around 5.20 pm. To save his life, Mukesh made a dash but the accused chased him and attacked with sharp-edged weapons.
The victim was hit on the chest and in the stomach. The accused managed to escape the spot, but one of them, Akash, was arrested later.
Police sources said the accused used to tease Mukesh by calling him names, as a result of which they had a scuffle on Friday. But the matter was sorted out.
The police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector-39 police station. Police are looking for the second accused.
