The toll plaza became operational in April, 2012, and the first rate revision was effected from September 1, 2012, after five months.

"The toll rate has been enhanced on the basis of wholesale price index. There is a price escalation formula," Vimal Kumar Jain, project director, National Highway Authority of India said.

The four-laning project of the Zirakpur-Parwanoo stretch, which is a part of the National Highway Development Project Phase-III, was awarded to Jaiprakash Associates (Himalyan Expressways Pvt Ltd) in 2007 under build operate transfer (BOT) scheme.
