Chaos marks Day 1 of admissions at city-based missionary schools

Chaos marked the first day of the availability of forms at three missionary schools - St John's High School, Sector 26; Sacred Heart, Sector 26; and Carmel Convent, Sector 9 - in the city on Wednesday.

Parents started making a beeline for the schools since noon. Long queues and traffic chaos could be seen in front of the schools. The schools are likely to hold the draw of lots on January 17.

Around 1,000 forms were sold at Sacred Heart and 900 at Carmel Convent, while no information was provided by St John's on the sale of forms.

St Anne's School started selling the forms on Tuesday, where around 1,460 forms were sold on the first day of the admission process. The forms at all missionary schools will be available till Friday.

In lower kindergarten (LKG), there are 230 seats in St Anne's School, Sector 32. Children born between April 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, will be eligible for admission to LKG.

The selection for free and open seats will be done after the allocation of other seats, which will be made through the draw of lots on January 17, 2013, at 3.30 pm on the school premises. The list will be put up on January 18, 2013, at 11.30 am.

The registration fee is Rs 100. The duly filled application form should be submitted between December 12 and 13 between 2.45 pm and 4.30 pm in all four missionary schools.

In St John's High School, a boy who is born between April 1, 2007, and March 31, 2008, will be eligible to get admission in the upper kindergarten class. The completed forms will be accepted from December 13 to 15. The draw of lots will take place on January 17, 2013, at 3.30 pm. The forms are available for Rs 100.

At Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, a girl who is born between April 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, will be eligible to be admitted in the lower kindergarten class.

A candidate can submit the application form between December 13 and 15. The draw of lots will be held on January 17 at 3.30pm.

Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26, will be following the same schedule as Carmel Convent.

Promila Sharma, a parent who was standing in the queue at St John's School, said, "This year, there is a mad rush. Last year, when I had come to the school for the admission of my nephew it was still better."

Rahul Ranjan, who was standing in the queue of Carmel Convent, said, "I fear that the situation during the draw of lots will be more chaotic. This year, there are so many candidates. I hope that the right candidate gets through."

High drama at Sacred Heart

High drama was witnessed at Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, where parents indulged in a scuffle with school guards over long queues and gates being closed. The parents made an attempt to rough up the guard and also tried to force their way in through the gates.
