Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed charge sheet against a clerk-cum-junior technician of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) arrested for graft in March.
CBI special judge Vimal Kumar fixed the hearing of the case on August 30.
CBI on March 20 had arrested Surjit Singh while taking `10,000 in bribe from a Sector-61 resident near the CHB office.
In his complaint to the CBI, Sukhbir Singh had alleged that Surjit demanded bribe for giving back the excess amount of Rs 1 lakh paid by the complainant for the transfer of ownership of a flat in Sector 61.
CBI said the complainant had bought a flat from Inderjeet Gulati and mistakenly paid Rs 1 lakh extra in favour of the CHB to obtain the possession of the flat. On realising the mistake, Sukhbir moved an application seeking the refund of the excess amount paid to the CHB. The application was pending with Surjit, who had been demanding a bribe for the past few months to clear his file. CBI alleged that Surjit initially had Rs 5,000. However, he later settled for Rs 20,000 and the Rs 10,000 was the first instalment.
