Dismissed UT constable Basant Singh alias Bunty, 26, had stabbed inspector Sucha Singh six times, while his accomplice and girlfriend Sarita Rani, 23, attacked home guards volunteer Jatinder Singh. This is submitted in the charge sheet filed by the UT police before a court here on Friday. The police would file the forensic report later as it is still awaited from the CFSL.

Inspector Sucha Singh, 57, who was due to retire from service on January 31, 2014, was done to death by Basant on the intervening night of June 7 and 8. The accused, Basant and Sarita, who were arrested from Delhi, are in judicial custody.

The charge sheet has statement of Sucha Singh describing the turn of events, besides those of witnesses - home guards volunteer Jatinder Singh, who was with Sucha on the fateful night and had sustained injures in the attack, and constable Anil Kumar, who was on duty at the old district courts, Sector 17, a stone's throw away from the crime scene.

Basant, along with his girlfriend Sarita, was on the run ever since he had killed Sarita's husband and mother-in-law on April 18 in Sonepat. The couple was on way to catch a bus from Sector 17, when confronted by inspector Sucha Singh and home guards volunteer Jatinder Singh, who were on night patrolling. Basant attacked Sucha after he asked them to accompany them to the police station for verification.

The UT police had initially booked for 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt). The police had later booked the duo for murder after the death of Sucha.

Victim's dying declaration

“On the intervening June 7 and 8, I was on night checking, when I saw a couple standing in a suspicious manner. After I didn't find couple's replies about the purpose of their presence there convincing, I asked them to come to the police station for verification.

The man (Basant) got angry and attacked me with a knife and inflicted injuries on my chest, neck and back. When driver Jatinder Singh intervened, he was also attacked with the same knife. With both of us injured, the man snatched the keys of the police vehicle from Jatinder and sped away.”
