Charges fall flat, 9 acquitted in Sector-20 gurdwara dacoity

As prosecution failed to prove charges, the Chandigarh district court on Tuesday acquitted nine persons, including former president of Sector 20 gurdwara, Harcharan Singh, in a dacoity case that occurred in the same gurdwara on July 29 in 2012.

Total 1lakh cash and valuable documents of the gurdwara were stolen in that incident.

Others who were acquit-ted include former granthies Lakhwinder Singh and Gursewak Singh, kirtan perfor mers Kanwaljit Singh and Sukhjit Singh and sewadar Natha Singh.

Others include Gurdeep Singh , Balwant Singh and Jaswinder Singh.

Following the complaint of then president of the gurdwara, Inder pal Singh, a case was registered at Sector 19 police station.

As per the complaint, on the night of July 29, 2012, a group of 10-12 people armed with weapons barged into the gurdwara and locked its guard Pawanjit Singh and grant hi Satwant Singh in a room.

The complainant alleged that the miscreants also damaged the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera and broke open the almirah from where the cash had been stolen along with the documents.

Before leaving the gurdwar a premises, asper the complaint, the miscreants released the guard and the granthi of the gurdwara and also threatened them not to open their mouth.
