In the double murder case that rocked the city in December last year, the court of additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Shalini Nagpal on Monday framed charges against prime accused Rahul Sahu, 34, who is the maternal uncle of the deceased siblings - Kavita Sahu, 17, and Gaurang Sahu, 15.

It was in April that the UT police filed a 24-page chargesheet, alleging that Rahul, a resident of Raipur Rani in Panchkula, had been making sexual advances towards his niece Kavita. Her objections angered him, and he planned to teach her a lesson.

On December 16, 2011, Rahul came to their house in Sector 41 and it soon led to an argument. As Kavita's brother Gaurang told him to leave the place after he sensed his intentions, Rahul stabbed him with a knife. Rahul then sought to molest Kavita, but she resisted and he stabbed her to death, said the police.

The chargesheet further added that Rahul even tried to make it seem like a robbery by scattering household articles.

Rahul fled to a dera in Binjalpur on the Yamunanagar-Naraingarh road, where he stayed for four days. He then moved frequently to escape arrest, but the police had managed to deduce that the murderer was someone known to the victims. On January 17, 2012, Rahul made a distress call to his father Amar Chand, who informed the police about his son's call.

The police, who had Rahul in their frame of suspense, traced the call location, and Rahul was arrested from Saha in Ambala.

The matter will now come up for hearing on July 29.
