Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary, prime accused in Jyoti murder case, filed an application for interim bail on Tuesday before sessions court here to attend Himachal Pradesh (HP) Assembly session going on at Dharamshala (HP). It is a six-day session which started on December 16.
Belonging to Dalit community of Bhunga village in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district, Jyoti, 24, was found dead - her head smashed -- by the side of the road in Sector 21 of Panchkula on November 22, 2012.
Chaudhary submitted before the court that he was an elected representative of people and has to fulfill certain responsibilities in this regard. He has been seeking the interim bail from December 17 till December 21.
A notice was issued on Tuesday to the police for reply on Wednesday.
Earlier, on August 24, the sessions court here had rejected his application to attend the assembly session for a day.
Earlier also, on March 12, Chaudhary had moved an application for attending the budget session of HP Assembly but then chief judicial magistrate Bhawna Jain denied the permission on March 15 saying attending the assembly session could not be taken as a fundamental right and Chaudhary had been facing trial for a heinous crime.
Presently, trial has been going on in this case.
