The members of Chandigarh Housing Board Employees Co-ordination Committee (CHBECC) on Friday held a protest over non-implementation of the pension scheme and alleged that the matter is being delayed unnecessarily by the Chandigarh Administration.

Committee president Shinder Singh said, “It is unfortunate and discouraging for the CHB employees. Most of our retired/retiring/working employees are suffering due this. We have brought to the notice of the chairman, CHB, and Chandigarh Administration the concerns and anxiety of employees over the financial security.”

He added that pay, allowances, duties and responsibilities of CHB employees are same as in case of other employees of the Chandigarh Administration, but CHB employees are being deprived of the 'pension benefit'. It amounts to wanton discrimination of one against another, which is not sustainable in law and rather violates the existing constitutional provisions, he claimed.

On February 4, the issue of grant of pension to retired and serving employees of CHB was taken up in the Open Darbar of UT administrator Shivraj V Patil, where he had categorically ordered the senior officers of Chandigarh Administration that, “The CHB is an independent body and if they have the requisite funds to cater to the needs of its serving and retired employees, then the administration will certainly give approval.”
