The chain hunger strike of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) demanding implementation of pension completed 55 days, but there is no respite in sight as the administration and the CHB managements mainted a stoic silence on the issue.
The CHB employees, under the banner of the Chandigarh Housing Board Employees Co-ordination Committee (CHBECC), have been sitting on hunger strike for the past 55 days. As the employees failed to get response from the UT administration or the management of CHB, the union has decided to extend the ongoing chain hunger strike for another seven days upto June 17.
On Saturday, five CHB employees - Ram Kumar, Surinder Gosain, Surinder Rana, Ramesh Chander and Dinesh Bahuguna - sat on the day-long hunger strike to register their protest for not implementing the pension scheme to the employees of the Chandigarh Housing Board pending with the Chandigarh administration since 2009.
The employees are demanding implementation of the pension scheme for the employees who joined prior to January 1, 2004.
