In order to provide quality food to government schoolchildren under the midday meal scheme, SAS Nagar deputy commissioner issued directions for regular checking of the meal before serving it to kids.
The directions issued by DC Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu, assume significance in wake of recent incidence of lizard found in the meal in an anganwadi in Chandigarh.
“Regular inspection of the food served under the mid-day meal scheme should be done before serving to ensure quality food,” said Sidhu.
Fixing accountability, Sidhu, said the officials who fail to check the meal would be taken to task in case of complaint.
The meal is being supplied to all schools from a centralised kitchen in SAS Nagar. Ensure attendance of the staff The deputy commissioner has also asked concerned subdivisional magistrates (SDMs) to ensure attendance of the staff and do regular inspections. The DC has asked SDMs to ensure compliance of the RTS act and initiate disciplinary proceedings against the staff, which is either found absent or not adhering to the time frame given under the RTS act.
