Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema and industries minister Madan Mohan Mittal distributed discretionary quota grants to various social organisations during two different events held here on Sunday.
Cheema distributed grants worth rs 31.50 lakh while Mittal distributed grants worth rs 11 lakh.
During a function organised at the local Municipal Council (MC) office, Cheema said, "The grants have been provided to organisations working for the welfare of the society."
He also inaugurated the new office of senior citizens council, set up in the MC office complex.
MC president Paramjit Singh Makkar, former president Inder Sain Chhatwal, Gopal Gaushala secretary Mool Raj Sharma, councillor Harvinder Singh Haveli and Akali leader Gurdev Singh Kohli also spoke on the occasion.
In a different event held at Jain Janj Ghar, at Mohalla Phool Chakkar, Madan Mohan Mittal said, "Rupnagar has witnessed tremendous development in the last few years. It has become an educational hub due to the efforts of the SAD-BJP regime."
Beopar Mandal chairman Mohinder Singh also spoke on the occasion.
