Family members of chief parliamentary secretary Ram Kishan Gujjar had a narrow escape when a state government car, in which they were travelling, was hit by a canter on National Higway-1 here on Tuesday evening.

Gujjar, who is the Congress legislator from Naraingarh in Ambala district, was not present in the car when the accident took place near Namastay Chowk.

In-charge of Sector-4 police post and investigating officer Jai Pal said Gujjar’s wife and daughter were travelling in the car and no one had sustained any injury in the accident.

Superintendent of police Abhishek Garg said as per initial information, the canter driver fled from the spot after the incident occurred. He said further action would be initiated on the basis on the complaint.

Meanwhile, Pal said the accident took place due to heavy traffic near Namastay Chowk prima facie.

“No foul play is suspected in the case. Due to congestion on the highway, 2-3 vehicles, including Gujjar’s car, piled up on the national highway and was hit by the canter. The front portion of the vehicle was partly damaged,” he said, adding that Gujjar’s family members left for their destination in a private vehicle.
